Message from the CEO - Sept 15

Posted by: Richard Madden
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit the new and updated Subsurface Global website. The last few weeks have been a challenge, ensuring we have transferred all information correctly but I am happy with the results. A huge thank you to all the internal team and 4MAT for working so hard.

As I write, the Bloomberg Energy ticker tells me the oil price is close to $52/bbl. 2015 will certainly be one of those years remembered for having to dig in and work hard. As Subsurface Global is focused purely on the Upstream Oil and Gas industry we are experiencing first-hand the difficulties and lack of confidence. I am however pleased to say the strong relationships built up over the years are helping to win business and provide suitable opportunities for our candidates and consultants.

For those of you who don't know us, we pride ourselves in having a settled team in Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi and Kurdistan. The core team have all worked together for more than 3 years. We have a new addition to the Abu Dhabi team, welcome to Matthew Birchley who has recently joined us as Finance Manager. Matthew is settling in well and getting to know our staff, clients and consultants. I will be joining Matthew and the team in Abu Dhabi when I relocate with my family during August. After spending two years working from the Edinburgh office, the lack of sunshine has helped make the decision to return.

We are well prepared to cope with a sustained low oil price and are working hard with our clients to ensure we are being as flexible as possible during uncertain times. Unfortunately we are routinely hearing of experts in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering and Drilling deciding to use the dip in the oil price and lack of job opportunities to take early retirement. My personal view is that this will create difficulties in the years to come with skills / knowledge gap. I intend to write a post on this subject in the next couple of months. If you would like to have any input into this document please get in touch using this email.

Before I sign off I would like to wish Peter Bottomley well for his training over the coming months. Peter has decided to trek to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Alzheimer Scotland. Peter is organizing various fund raising events but is also accepting donations here

All the best for the months ahead.

Kind regards,

Richard Madden
