Tell me a bit about yourself and your background:

I grew up on the West Coast of Scotland and moved to Edinburgh for University. I studied French and Spanish Interpreting and Translating at Heriot-Watt University and graduated in 2020. After graduating, I fell into recruitment after a year and started working in pre-employment screening and compliance for a tech recruitment company. After a year there I decided to move on and started working at WeConnect Energy.

In between graduating and my recruitment job, I worked for a small energy provider that went into administration which is how I fell into recruitment. It always feels a bit funny to think that working in energy then recruitment, lead me to working in energy recruitment.

What were your views on the rebrand, what are you most excited about operating under the new brand?

I think it’s a great thing overall. Hearing the way certain sales pitches had to be tailored to highlight that we don’t just focus on Upstream Technical Roles or all the talk of how far we have grown since 2008, I believe the rebrand makes sense.

It’s great to see the brand develop and modernise to fit the way the company already had.

What’s a piece of advice you’d pass onto someone who wants to get into Business Support?

My advice would be to stay adaptable and prioritise effective communication – it's the key to success in a business support role.

I've always been passionate about connecting people with opportunities, and working in a business support role at a recruitment company allows me to do just that. It's incredibly fulfilling to be the backbone of the organisation, ensuring operations and supporting the growth of both the company and the individuals we place. Every day is a chance to contribute, and it’s great to see the tangible outcomes on the back of my support.

How have your first 6 months been at WeConnect Energy been?

The first word that comes to mind is fast (time flies when you are having fun). In all honesty, they've flown by due to the amount of growth that’s happened this year. We moved office in March which created a lot of tasks for me to be involved in, then came the rebrand with further interesting tasks. These projects really filled my days meaning the time was flying.

What’s a typical day like for you?

A typical day involves drafting and/or reviewing contract documents for our new placements, checking inputs to the CRM for discrepancies or missing data, and completing any ad hoc duties that land on my desk (this typically takes up most of my time).

What are you enjoying the most about your job so far?

I enjoy that I get brought into many different tasks. For example, I can go from Auditing CRM inputs to organising Volunteering.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Life is all about change. Don't be afraid of it; instead, learn to adapt and grow with it. It's in the times of change that you often discover the most about yourself.

I have changed a lot – I have moved more than 5 times within Edinburgh and gone from studying languages, to working for an energy supplier to falling into recruitment. Without embracing change, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I believe it's important to embrace change as this will allow people and businesses to grow and flourish.

What do you get up to when you are not working?

When I am not at work, I enjoy going for walks, especially during the autumn/ winter season in Edinburgh. Aside from that, I love to read and can easily spend the day with a hot drink reading a whole book!
